The 3 Factors That Define a Strong Tech Recruiting Agency

A LATAM startup reached out to us recently: “We need 4 engineers in 60 days. Can you do it?”

Many agencies would have said “yes” and sent over a massive volume of profiles. We said: “Yes, but with these parameters.”

The result: 3 hires in 45 days and 1 in 75 days.

The story matters because it illustrates a simple point: speed is attractive, but hiring quality creates lasting value.

If you’re looking for a recruiting agency to help scale your tech team, there are three variables you should evaluate:

1. Speed Without Compromising Fit

A candidate hired in twenty days can become a problem six months later.

Strong agencies will also tell you when there isn’t a match. Time-to-hire matters, but retention of the people you hire matters more.

2. Rigorous Technical Validation

Does the agency actually understand your technical stack, or does it simply distribute profiles?

Technical screening needs to be meaningful: assessments that genuinely evaluate ability, rather than tests designed to intimidate candidates. Anyone who reaches your desk should already be genuinely validated.

3. Aligned Incentives

If a candidate leaves after a month, who absorbs the risk?

Commercial models that reward quality of hire, not just volume, create different dynamics. When the agency has some exposure to the outcome, selectivity improves.

The Data

Companies that successfully scaled without incurring high turnover costs tended to work with specialized agencies rather than generalist firms.

Tech specialization matters.

Scaling the right way requires process, discipline, and partners who understand that a bad hire costs more than a slightly slower hire.
